A conversion factor of 1.8 tonnes per cubic metre may be applied, for those of you who already have the required volume at your fingertips.

If you wish to calculate the requirement on the basis of having the following information you can download and use this ready-reckoner in Excel format
• Length of paving element in millimetres
• Width of paving element in millimetres
• Depth of paving element in millimetres
• Width of joint in millimetres

Please be careful if assessing the consumption for rough-sided paving elements, such as cropped setts. The joint mortar consumption could increase significantly above the amount suggested by the ready-reckoner, by a factor of 2 in some cases.
