ESCOFET – Silla Nigra Chair
SILLA NIGRA is an individual chair designed for use in different styles. It can be installed in isolation, distributed in informal groups or form compositions of benches in straight, discontinuous or circular lines. It is distinguished as a single piece in reinforced cast stone with an attractive Z-shaped profile with a variable section. The thickest segment is the 18 cm wide base, anchored to the pavement, followed by the seat, reduced to 10 cm., and then the backrest, which narrows to a minimum of 6.5 cm. Both its ergonomics and the slight angle of the seat and the backrest make it extraordinarily comfortable, countering the sense of hardness transmitted by the material. The abstraction of its shape, its black colour and its many add-on possibilities enable this seat to be adapted to numerous projects and locations. SILLA NIGRA was designed for Escofet in 1994 by architects Màrius Quintana and Montse Periel.
